The Maritsa Municipality is situated on a sacred land, crossed by the rivers Maritza and Stryama. This land testifies for an extremely rich history. There were discovered more than 300 monuments of culture mounds, settlements, tombs, statues and columns. These findings are clear evidence of our rich history which dates from the ancient times – starting from the time of the Thracians, passing through the era of Roman domination until now-a-days.
There are many myths and legends about different significant for our culture people such as the founder of the village Manole -master Manol; The Tarnev’s family; Vasil Levski’s associate – Diado Ivan Arabadzhiyata from the village of Tsaratsovo. There are also many legends about Vasil Levski - a great national hero in our history who forded across the villages in the region.
The center of the cultural activity in every village and in the municipality is every single National Community Center. Dedicated to their highly noble and patriotic activities, the National community centers continue the traditions and rituals typical for our region and keep alive our Bulgarian spirit.

The calendar of the cultural events of the municipality shows the rich cultural life in our villages, filled with many holidays, celebrations and performances with a rich amateur art activities.
The National fair for authentic folklore “Ot izvora” in the village of Trud has already become traditional and it is organized every year. Religion as part of the lifestyle and culture of the population is represented by 18 buildings of churches and several chapels.

In many villages festive cultural rituals coincide with religious holidays and the population dedicates to them their traditional annual fairs. The official holiday of the Maritsa Municipality is on March 25 - the Annunciati
